Ricardo Medem Award: The International Prize Honoring the World’s Greatest Hunting Trophies
The Cinegética + SCI 2026 Fair announces the opening of applications for the Ricardo Medem Award, an international recognition that celebrates the finest big game hunting trophies.
This prestigious prize highlights the rarity of the species, the challenge of the hunt, and the quality of the trophy, rewarding the effort, dedication, and passion of hunters who travel the world in search of exceptional specimens.
A Prestigious Jury
The jury will be composed of distinguished figures from the international hunting community and Safari Club International (SCI), including:
The Jury of the Ricardo Medem Award is appointed by the Award Commission and consists of: Dan Cabela (President, Cabela Foundation), Jan Dams (Weatherby Award Winner), Miguel Estadé (President, SCI Europe), Laird Hamberlin (CEO, SCI), Donald Larsson (Deputy Director, SCI Record Book), Marqués de Laserna (Founder, Cinegética), Luis de la Peña (Deputy President, CIC), Eduardo Negrete (Weatherby Award Winner), Marcos Quintas (CEO, Cinegética + SCI), Ignacio Ruiz-Gallardón (President, Culminum Magister), Dr. Eduardo Romero Nieto (President, Fundación Romero Nieto), Eva Schrittwieser (President, SCI Austria Chapter), and Renee Snider (Weatherby Award Winner).
Evaluation Criteria
The jury will assess entries based on three main criteria:
- The hunting value of the species or subspecies.
- The objective difficulty of the hunt.
- The quality of the trophy within its species.
Trophies and Categories
The Ricardo Medem Award will consist of a bronze sculpture by renowned Spanish artist Chiqui Díaz — a symbol of excellence, tradition, and respect for hunting.
From among 25 selected candidates, the jury will choose four finalists and one overall winner, who will receive the iconic sculpture.
All candidates will receive a commemorative trophy in recognition of their participation, which will be presented during the Cinegética-SCI Gala Dinner.
Exhibition and Award Ceremony
During Cinegética + SCI 2026, which will take place from March 19 to 22 at IFEMA (Hall 4, Madrid), visitors will be able to view a photographic gallery of the competing trophies.
The award ceremony will be held during the traditional Cinegética + SCI Gala Dinner, a landmark event that brings together each year the leading figures of the international hunting community.
